Career History

August 2022 - Current

Materials Engineer

Waste For Life

As a Materials Engineer, I spearheaded a two-year initiative with Waste For Life to address plastic pollution in the Tijuana River, implementing sustainable solutions that repurposed waste into composite plastic products that were then sold with 100% of profits benefiting the local community members. This was done through materials collection and physical testing according to ASTM standards to assess the physical properties of the materials. The data I provided initiated a new process to create materials and identify potential and ideal use cases for each product.

  • Spearheaded a 2 year-long initiative in collaboration with the organization Waste For Life to              address plastic pollution in the Tijuana River.

  • Implemented a sustainable solution involving local community members to remove plastic waste        from the river and repurpose it into composite plastic products.

  • Led the creation of a testing process to assess the physical properties of the products created in            Tijuana in order to determine the optimal manufacturing techniques and identify potential          use cases.

  • Conducted on-site visits to Tijuana, fostering strong international relationships with local                  stakeholders and gaining firsthand insights into the project's impact.

  • Successfully achieved continuous reduction of plastic pollution in the Tijuana River while                    creating a life-long income stream for local residents.

  • Implemented training programs for hundreds of residents and international team members

June 2021 - November 2023

Test Engineer I

Westpak, Inc.

As a Packaging Test Engineer, I work with many medical device companies and simulate the hazards and damages that a package will see in transit or storage environment. I generate detailed and thorough reports that design engineers then use to optimize and validate their package systems.

  •    Simulated hazards typical in the shipping environment according to ASTM, ISTA ISO, and many more standards.

  •    Delivered $80,000+ (above company standard) worth of packaging testing and data analysis monthly, providing essential feedback that led to the successful redesign and validation of packaging solutions by packaging engineers.

  •     Implemented sustainable practices to reduce material cost and single use plastic waste in everyday processes used in the organization by opting to replace single use plastics with reusable materials.

  •    Gained extensive hands-on experience with thousands of packages and packaging types, including consumer electronics, medical devices and food packaging, demonstrating expertise in handling and evaluating diverse packaging solutions.

August 2022 - May 2024

M.S. Engineering, Sustainability & Health

University of San Diego

At the University of San Diego, my focus is on using engineering and design to implement sustainability and improve global health.

  • Coordinate international efforts between the University of San Diego and CETYS University in Mexico to work with locals in Tijuana to reclaim plastic waste from the Tijuana River and convert them into recycled, composite plastics.

January 2019 - May 2022

B.S. Packaging Engineering

San Jose State University

At San Jose State University I earned my Packaging Engineering degree with proficiencies in packaging design using Solidworks and ArtiosCAD, medical device packaging, and project management. I also was elected as the Treasurer of the Packaging Club where I introduced new streams of fundraising and hosted monthly events.

  • Led group projects to create products and packages using Solidworks/Artios

  • Hosted monthly events that introduced students to packaging and increased enrollment

  • Created 30+ designs using both Solidworks and Artios
